Awards for work in quantum communication, computing and sensing go to research teams across Singapore
The Quantum Engineering Programme (QEP) has awarded grants to 26 projects entered to calls for proposals under its second phase of funding. These projects comprise six in quantum communication and security, 11 in quantum computing and processors and nine in quantum sensing.
Altogether, more than 70 researchers in Singapore at institutes of higher learning and with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) are involved as Principal Investigators (PIs) and co-PIs in these new projects.

QEP, established in 2018, was allocated a second tranche of funding in 2020. It then launched calls for proposals that invited researchers to address challenge statements developed through workshops involving both researchers and industry participants.
These calls had specific focus areas: quantum internet, quantum computing for chemistry and materials, quantum computing for supply chain management and finance, quantum processors, quantum sensors for environment and navigation, and quantum sensors for health and life sciences.
The successful projects were selected after expert peer review of submissions, from a first award in September 2021 through to projects beginning this month, April 2022. The projects range from two to three years long.
